Kindergarten-Grade 2– Residents of the Troubled Village thrive on misfortune and look for ways to add to their woes while reducing the worries of their neighbors. They get a big dose following a storm when the sky falls in. To add to the catastrophe, a little boy tries to touch a star in the pavement and he falls into the void of the fallen sky. More of the townfolk fall in trying to save him, but by working together they stave off disaster. In their efforts to keep the sky aloft, their other concerns are forgotten. Adults will most appreciate the villagers who seek out adversity, and children will be quick to point out a more logical solution to the situation. Most readers will enjoy the imaginative story and the bold, pithy illustrations. A simple but effective fable. –Lori A. Janick, Parkwood Elem . School, Pasadena, TX
