From Booklist
Sprightly rhyming text describes the exuberance of a beautiful day as a young girl frolics with 10 different animals. The overall simplicity and the soft illustrations in colored pencil on textured paper have a genteel, graceful feeling. One line of large type per spread narrates. “One pig is prancing. Two ducks are dancing. Three chicks are cheeping. Four lambs are leaping.” The array of animals, wearing hats or clothing, is not the usual assortment and includes swallows, ferrets, hamsters, and llamas. Wearing a red jumper and yellow hat, the girl romps with the animals and mimics their actions, ending with: “And I am part of it all. Oh, what a beautiful day!” The rhymes will entice young ones to repeat the phrases as they point at and count the creatures. Preschool. –Julie Cummins

Imaginative play is celebrated in this slight concept selection…There’s no conflict in this sweet story where “Nine hamsters are hugging. / [and] Ten llamas are loving.”…Spowart’s colored-pencil drawings suit the exuberance of the child’s outing, creating a warm, hazy glow. —Kirkus Reviews
